The summer has started and it won't be long before you are here in the UK. We wanted to get in touch to give you some more information about visas, CAS issuing, travelling to Nottingham and our Welcome (orientation) Programme for new international students. We look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham soon.
We offer a free Welcome Programme for new international students (from outside the EU).
The Welcome Programme runs between 20 and 24 September this year and is an excellent opportunity to get to know the campus and make friends before term starts. As well as social events and academic preparation, the Welcome Programme also includes practical sessions designed to help new students with tasks such as opening a UK bank account and registering with the National Health Service (NHS).
The coach pick-up from Heathrow Airport to the University will operate on Tuesday 20 September from 7am to 7pm. Unfortunately, we are unable to collect students arriving in the UK on different dates or at different airports.
However, we do have a guidance booklet available that covers all aspects of travelling independently to Nottingham.
The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has new regulations on working whilst studying and working after graduation. Please click on 'read more' below for a summary of this information by The University of Nottingham.
Please note that individual circumstances may dictate slightly different applications of the UKBA guidance and that this information may be subject to further change and updates announced by the UKBA. Further information and regularly updated advice can be found at: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/
As you may be aware, the UK Border Agency (UKBA) has recently announced specific English language requirements for students wishing to study in the UK on a (general) student visa under Tier 4 of the points based system. Information on the new requirements can be found on the UKBA website at:
We will be contacting all applicants who meet the University's English language requirements but not the new UKBA requirements directly to offer advice and guidance on the best way forward. If you are affected by these changes you will receive an email from us outlining your options. Please be assured that we are committed to doing all we can to help you meet the new language requirements so that you are able to take up your place to study with us.
We’re pleased to confirm that we have recently launched an online pre-payment system to enable foundation and taught masters unconditional offer holders, who have firmly accepted, to pay a tuition fee deposit.
Pre payment of a tuition fee deposit shows a clear commitment to studying at the University of Nottingham and should provide you with a positive advantage when making your student visa application.
The University will waive deposit requirements for students who are fully funded by a recognised sponsor. If you are fully sponsored for your course fees, please submit a copy of your sponsorship letter to helen.rylands@nottingham.ac.uk, quoting your full name and application ID number.
Note that if a sponsorship letter is not received, you will be required to pay the deposit before a CAS can be issued (for unconditional offer holders).
All new international students are guaranteed University-arranged accommodation provided they firmly accept their offer to study here and apply for accommodation before the 1 August deadline. You can apply for accommodation if your offer is conditional or unconditional - you just need to have firmly accepted your offer to be able to apply.
Full details of the accommodation options available, including fees and application forms are available from the Accommodation Office website.
We recommend that you check your Portal account on a regular basis and look out for emails from the University during August and September. You will be sent a lot more information on registration, your School or Department, your course, activities when you arrive etc.
Please ensure that you keep your email address, postal address and other contact details up to date to make sure you do not miss any important updates.
The International Office is on Twitter, where you can find updates on scholarships, overseas visits and important dates and deadlines. The International Office Twitter page is designed exclusively for international students and includes relevant information on what to expect when you arrive, how to get here and how to meet us when we visit your home country.
To find out specific information about your country and see whether a member of our team is travelling to your country soon, please have a look at the Your Country section of the International Office website.
